The second world chess champion Emanuel Lasker (1894 – 1921) was born in this house on December 24, 1868. The place was then called “Berlinchen” and today it is the Polish town of Barlinek. He held the title of the world champion for 27 years continuously, this success is still an unbeaten record. Apart from the plaque, however, there is nothing chess-like to be seen in the house. In the town there is also a park named after Lasker.
