Schachklub Bern, founded in 1873, is one of the largest chess clubs in Switzerland, located at the Haus des Schachs Bern, Altenbergstrasse 65, 3013 Bern. With approximately 190 members, including 40 juniors, the club is a member of the Swiss Chess Federation and the Bernese Chess Association. It participates in the Swiss Team Championship (SMM) and Swiss Group Championship (SGM) with 8 teams, and its top teams compete in the second-highest league. The club hosts an active schedule of events, including an annual Club Championship, monthly Blitz tournaments, and a Christmas Rapid Tournament. Training sessions are available for players with a strength of 1800+ and with top players of the club. Schachklub Bern also supports “Schach in der Schule” and runs the initiative “Zug um Zug gegen Rassismus.” Club evenings are held every Thursday, with sessions for juniors starting at 5:30 PM, adult training at 6:00 PM, and active players at 7:30 PM. Visitors are welcome to join the weekly club evening.
