Busy Buenos Aires street with tall buildings lining both sides,

Argentina hosted the 1939 Chess Olympiad in Buenos Aires, after which several European masters remained in the country and strengthened its competitive scene. The Federación Argentina de Ajedrez (FADA) governs organized chess, and Argentina produced leading grandmasters including Oscar Panno and Miguel Najdorf, long associated with Buenos Aires.
